Aggies Helping AggiesThe Lily Voelkel Foundation is an advocate non-profit for those who are DeafBlind. Proceeds will go to the support of DeafBlind programs in the State of Texas, local and national support of CHARGE Syndrome research and organizations and the buildup of funds to help bring a CHARGE Center to the Houston Medical Center.
Throughout her struggles have been her parents, Tyson ‘96 and Christi ‘98 Voelkel, who’s own ties to Texas A&M University and the Corps of Cadets is as steadfast as their love and devotion to their children, Lily, 2 years and Eliana, 4. Tyson was Corps Commander and graduated from Texas A&M in 1996 and Christi, who at one time worked for the Office of the Commandant graduated in 1998. “Being a former member of the Corps and a couple who really have our roots in what the Corps and Texas A&M stands for, we knew that they would be willing to help our cause and really, everyone’s cause who has had CHARGE touch their lives,” explains Tyson. “We were totally lost initially in the maze of the severity and complexity of her condition, the surgeries, the medical aspect and what it really meant to have a child with CHARGE. We want to help others down this path that so many find themselves on. In starting this foundation, we wish to help not only Lily, but all those involved in this daily life struggle.” | ||||||
