For the 2013-2014 academic year, Howdy Club will award
eight $2,000 and four $5,000 scholarships.
Background
The Texas A&M Howdy Club (“Howdy Club”) would like to commend you for choosing to attend Texas A&M University. Texas A&M is an elite institution built on the foundation of superior academic programs, world-class students, and a second-to-none alumni network. But what makes Texas A&M different from any other elite university is the “other education” students receive while here- an education with unparalleled leadership opportunities, that builds men and women of character, and fosters a deep camaraderie and loyalty that lasts a life time.
The Howdy Club, a Houston-based Former Student organization, recognizes the determination and effort necessary to succeed at Texas A&M. The Howdy Club mission statement is as follows:
The Texas A&M Howdy Club is a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to promoting and supporting education, professional growth, service, and scholarships among Texas A&M University Alumni, Students, and Staff.
In accordance with our mission, the Howdy Club provides scholarships to students who best exemplify the “Aggie Spirit.” Howdy Club holds monthly happy hours and other events where donations are collected for the purpose of funding these scholarships. For the 2013-2014 academic year, Howdy Club will award eight $2,000 and four $5,000 scholarships.

Houston Howdy Club Doubles Its Support for Annual Scholarship
Awarded for Most Aggie Spirit
HOUSTON, TEXAS (October 21, 2011) – Earlier this month, the Howdy Club of Houston, Houston’s premiere Aggie Alumni organization, contributed more than $27,000 to the Texas A&M Foundation, doubling its existing endowed scholarship established in 2001. The amount is in addition to the organization’s annual gift of $20,000.
Supporting scholarships for Texas A&M University students has been a cornerstone of the club’s mission since its formation in the 1980s. Its unique scholarship program, unlike any other available to A&M students, awards its scholarships primarily based on the AGGIE SPIRIT demonstrated by the applicant.
The annual scholarships, in the amount of $1000 per student, are limited to those meeting the academic requirements of the University and who are entering their sophomore, junior, or senior year at Texas A&M University. All recipients must maintain a minimum overall grade point average of 2.0 and be enrolled as a full-time student in fall and spring semesters.
“The Howdy Club awards scholarships to current students not only because we recognize the increasing cost of education faced by students and their families, but because we want to reward students who make the most of their Texas A&M experience,” said Matt Maddox, the club’s director of scholarships and a 2004 graduate of A&M’s Mays Business School.
To date, the club has donated $290,000 in direct scholarship support and has now funded its second $25,000 endowment for a total of $340,000 since its formation.
“We want to fund scholarships that reward students for the very thing that makes Texas A&M different than all the other schools: the Aggie spirit,” said Ashley Cassel, Howdy Club president and a 2005 speech communication graduate. Maddox said the club “recognizes that students who exemplify the Aggie spirit not only make our university better, but they also are more likely to give back to Texas A&M, both financially and as lifelong ambassadors of the school.”
In accordance with its mission, Howdy Club awards over $21,000 in scholarships annually. The Howdy Club, comprised of Aggie alumni primarily between the ages of 22-35, holds monthly social hours and other events where donations are collected for the purpose of funding these scholarships, while providing opportunities for Houston area Texas A&M alumni to network and reconnect with new and former classmates. Howdy Club accepts donations from both business and individuals to support the program. For more information on the Houston Howdy Club, please visit www.howdyclub.com.
